Day/date: Thursday, July 10, 1986 Incidents - 7/4/86 - 7/7/86 Yellowstone, 7/4/86: Hiker near Craig Pass was chased and knocked down by a bear, who then bit him on the thigh. Hiker had four puncture wounds. He was treated and released. No name given. Visitor gored by bison under rib cage and may require surgery. Name and location unknown at present. Three rapes have occurred in the park. No further information available at present. Glen Canyon, 7/3/86: Boating fatality to P.M., white female, aged 26, DOB 4/2/60. She was a passenger in a boat which hit the wake of another boat at a sharp angle. She was flipped out of the boat, which then ran over her. Received severe lacerations, near amputations, of an arm and leg. Incident occurred 23 miles up lake. Victim recovered alive. Rangers administered IV and evacuated by air to hospital in Page. Died 7/5/86. Lost 9 units of blood. Victim was from Holland; boat operator was named T.A. Glen Canyon, 7/6/86: Three brothers and their families were on a private house boat. Some of the family members slept on the boat's roof, which had no guard rail. Four-year- old boy (D.S., Draper, Utah, 12/5/81 DOB) rolled off; father discovered him missing at 0400; body found floating at 0430. Pronounced dead by father at Bull Frog. Glen Canyon, 7/7/86: At about 8:30 pm, D.D., 24 yrs old, DOB unknown, from Brigham City, Utah, dove into the water at Gunsight Canyon and didn't resurface. NPS on scene at 10 p.m. Body not found. Next of kin notified. Search continues. Follow Up Report Received by: Bill Halainen Phone(s): 343-4874 Incident location: V/C Beaver Meadows Summary: About noon on 7/9, man called Estes Park C of C & said he'd set off bomb in area. C of C disregarded call. Around 2pm, called Rev. W. of Estes park & said he would set off bomb in VC of park in protest of our attack on Libya. Bomb would go off on 7/9 or 7/10. Said 3 people would go into VC w/package, sit down & leave. Rocky Mt NP dispatch then got a call around 5pm from "Jim" with same threat. Region advised 6pm. Denver PD bomb dog called in along w/2 FBI agents. All on scene now. VC evacuated last nite & searched -- nothing found. VC opened again. Beaver Meadows entrance was closed to keep people out of VC area, but now open again. Investigation continues. ICS in effect. 168 authorization needed.
