Day/date: June 4, 1987 FIELD INCIDENT REPORT Log number: 87-90 Date/time of incident: 6/3, noon Date/time received: 6/4, 2:10pm Park: Hawaii Volcanoes Location: Halemaumau Crater Reported by: Ann Betus, Division of Ranger Activities, WRO Received by: Melissa Warner, Division of Ranger Activities, WASO Summary: P.K.H., who suffered from severe asthma, was walking on the trail and passed the warning sign which advises those with respiratory problems to proceed no further. She passed the sign and immediately, according to witnesses, fell to the ground, unconscious and not breathing. CPR was started at this time by other visitors. Several visitors went to notify park rangers. The response time was approximately 20 minutes. P.K.H.'s body was transported to Memorial Mortuary in Helo. Next of kin notified.
