The plot contained over 100 mature plants, an elaborate irrigation system, and lean-to shelters. The estimated value of the plants is $150,000. Persons involved: Name Address DOB or age *** not given *** FIELD INCIDENT REPORT Incident type: Armed Robbery Log number: 87-226 Date/time of incident: 9/7, 2pm Date/time received: 9/9, 11am Park: Acadia NP Location: Thunder Hole Gift Shop Reported by: Norm Dodge, CR, (through Len Bobinchock, NARO) Received by: Melissa Warner, WASO Summary: An unidentified subject entered the shop via a service door in the rear of the building. He wore a ski mask and was reported to be approximately 5'9n in height and weighed 150 lbs. He ordered the clerk to open the cash register, and place the contents in a bag. The clerk complied and the intruder left through the back entrance and disappeared into a wooded area with $1,150.00 in cash. Within 10 minutes rangers arrived at the scene, but were unable to apprehend the suspect. A tracking dog was brought to the scene and followed a scent to a parking lot. The scent was lost at that point. Six visitors and the clerk were in the shop at the time of the incident. None have been able to provide a detailed description of the thief. FBI and NPS are investigating. Evidence indicates that the driver was operating his vehicle in the northbound lane when he may have fallen asleep. The vehicle crossed the center line of the parkway and struck a bridge abutment. The driver was thrown from the vehicle. Both the driver and the vehicle fell off the bridge and onto the gravel road below, leaving little evidence of the accident on the parkway.
