On the following two days, a total of $1,000 in cash was withdrawn from local money machines employing cards stolen from the vehicles. Information developed by park rangers led to a plain-clothes stakeout in the park on November 1st; this in turn resulted in the arrest of two people for car clouting (breaking into unattended vehicles) in the park. A large amount of property was recovered. A cooperative investigation with the US Attorney and FBI is presently being conducted, and felony charges are being sought against the two. The bank involved in the theft from the money machines is denying the victim relief from liability because the thieves were able to gain access to the victim's PIN (personal identification number). Charges for violations of electronic money transfer laws are also being pursued by the FBI. Williams, however, managed to escape from the jail in Denver in which he was being held. The US Marshal's Service is currently searching for him as an escaped fugitive. FIELD INCIDENT REPORT Incident type: Fatality - Possible Drowning Log number: 87-258 Date/time of incident: 11/4 Date/time received: 11/5, 9am Park: Great Smokey Mtns NP Location: Little Pigeon River, Husky Grove Branch Reported by: Pete Hart, CR (through Don Russell, SERO) Received by: Melissa Warner, WASO Summary: A.N.M. generally went fishing every evening. Last evening when he did not return home his wife notified park personnel. A search was initiated at approximately 7:30pm which involved NPS rangers, state agencies, and local Emergency Services groups. At approximately 11:06pm A.N.M.'s body was found in a deep pool of water 200 yards south of the Husky Grove Branch. Cause of death has not been determined. No evidence of foul play has been found.
