B. suffered from smoke inhalation and severe burns over the upper part of his body and has only a 20% probability of surviving his injuries. Portland, Oregon 59 FIELD INCIDENT REPORT Incident type: NPS Assistance on Double Homicide Log number: 87-270 Date/time of incident: 12/5, pm Date/time received: 12/7, am Park: Glen Canyon Location: Outside of park Reported by: Tom McDonnell, LES, RMRO Received by: Bill Halainen, RAD, WASO Summary: Ranger Irv Francisco received a report of a vehicle fire in Copper Canyon, about 20 miles west of Piute Farms Marina in Glen Canyon, and investigated. He discovered the burned remains of two Navajo tribal police vehicles, and the bodies of two Navajo policemen locked in the back of one of the vehicles. Both officers' guns were missing. Investigators believe that the two were shot, then placed in the back of the vehicle. The assailants then drove down a road toward Glen Canyon with the intention of dumping the vehicles in Lake Powell. One became stuck, however, so both were instead burned. While he took a nap, she went for a walk. When he awoke, he could not find her and notified rangers. A search was begun which employed ground searchers, two dog teams and a helicopter, and her body was found at the bottom of a 350-foot embankment on Sunday afternoon.
