Day/date: August 10, 1988 RANGER ACTIVITIES DIVISION FIELD INCIDENT REPORT Incident type: Marijuana Cultivation Arrest Log number: 88-183 Date/time of incident: 8/8, 4:20 pm Date/time received: 8/10, 7 am Park: Whiskeytown Location: Near Highway 299 Reported by: Herb Gercke, RAD, WRO Received by: Bill Halainen, RAD, WASO Incident Summary Whiskeytown rangers and Shasta County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested 56-year-old W.P. of Redding, California, for cultivation of marijuana within the park on the 8th. A total of 1,423 plants were confiscated within five gardens, each of which was supported by a highly sophisticated drip irrigation system. The potential value of the crop is above $5,000,000. W.P. is under felony arrest and was to be arraigned yesterday. RANGER ACTIVITIES DIVISION FIELD INCIDENT REPORT Incident type: Employee Arrest Log number: 88-186 Date/time of incident: 8/9, 12 pm Date/time received: 8/10, 3:30 pm Park: Cape Cod Location: Entrance Reported by: Tony Bonanno, Chief Ranger, Cape Cod Received by: Jon Anglin, RAD, WASO Incident Summary On August 9th, Cape Cod rangers arrested seasonal ranger J.B.H., age 27, for theft of public monies. Audit discrepancies and an investigation by Seashore staff revealed that J.B.H. was stealing entrance station monies. An arrest warrant charging J.B.H. with a felony under 18 USC 641, and various other violations, was issued and J.B.H. was arrested while he was on duty. Search warrants were also obtained by seashore rangers. J.B.H. was transported to the U.S. Magistrate and then to Provincetown jail. The North Atlantic Regional Law Enforcement Specialist assisted in the arrest and investigation. D.R. had been sitting on a bench along the trail and apparently slipped through the railing and fell into the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. D.R. was alive at the time of his evacuation, but died while hospitalized on the 8th. B.L. approached too close to the animal and was butted. His injuries were limited to two fractures ribs.
