INCIDENTS
89-25 - Yosemite - Drug Arrests
Early on Wednesday morning, park rangers, DEA agents, U.S. Marshalls and
officers from several other local agencies executed arrest warrants for
eleven people for distribution of controlled substances in the park. Eight
of the eleven are employees of Yosemite Park and Curry Company and reside
within the park; the employment of the remaining three, who lived outside of
Yosemite, is not known. The arrests resulted from a lengthy investigation
which was conducted by park rangers with the assistance of Yosemite Park and
Curry Company.
OFFICE NOTES
1) The Branch of Fire Management is offering three-week training
opportunities on the Arrowhead and Alpine interagency hotshot crews. This
training is being offered to reinforce crew supervisor qualifications and to
expand the Service's capability for meeting national overhead commitments
over the next five to ten years. The detail is geared to those individuals
who have met the qualifications for crew supervisor but have had limited
experience with taking 20-person crews to active project fires. The Branch
of Fire will fund travel and subsistence. Details will be from 6/4-6/24,
7/2-7/22, 7/30-8/19 and 8/17-9/16. One page nominations and wildland fire
qualification records should be submitted before May 1st to Rick Gale, 3056
Elder Street, Suite A, Boise, ID 83705-4707. Nominees should indicate
preferred detail periods in priority order. (Rick Gale, Branch of Fire).
2) As a result of the budget hearings held yesterday, it seems likely that
we may have to respond to a number of questions from Congressmen and may in
turn have to query the field for needed information - particularly regarding
allocation of the $2.7 million proposed for distribution to the field for
drug interdiction purposes. (Walt Dabney, RAD).
