INCIDENTS

89-102 - Denali - Body Discovered

A party of German climbers returning from Mt. McKinley yesterday reported
that they had discovered the body of a climber approximately a quarter mile
north of Denali Pass at the 18,000' level on the 17th. Based on their
description of his clothing, rangers believe that the body may be that of
I.M., a Spanish solo climber who's been missing since last August.
An attempt will be made to make a positive identification. It has not yet
been determined if an evacuation is practical. (Tom Griffiths, CR, DENA,
via CompuServe to RAD/ARO and RADA/ASO).

89-103 - Channel Islands - Diving Fatality

On the 21st, W.D., 32, of Lancaster, California, was diving from a
commercial dive boat off Annacapa Island with a group of other divers when
he became separated from his partner. He was later spotted floating on the
surface. The cause of death is unknown, and an autopsy is pending. (Jack
Fitzgerald, CR, CHIS; report via CompuServe from PAD/ARO).

89-104 - Golden Gate - Homicide

On the morning of the 21st, a park visitor found the body of 27-year-old
T.B. of Oakland, California, at the park's Sutro Baths. She had
been shot in the chest. An investigation is underway. (Dispatch, GOGA;
report via CompuServe from {AD/ARO).

FIRE ACTIVITY

1) FIRE SITUATION

a) NATIONAL PARK SERVICE

* Ingraham Fire - Everglades - 67,600 acres (+ 12,600 since 5/23):

The fire is burning northwest to north in the Shark River Slough. Three
crews worked in the slough last night, and incident command was optimistic
about their ability to head off the fire if there was a heavy dew similar to
the one received on the night of the 22nd. The south portion of the fire
near park headquarters has been contained. If current tactics prove
unsuccessful, the fire camp will be moved to make room for aircraft
activity. The fire is under full suppression, using minimum impact tactics.

b) OTHER AGENCY

* Black Fire - Roswell District, BLM - 300 acres:

The fire has been contained.

* Luna Fire - Apache-Sitgreaves NF - 350 acres:

Low humidities and strong winds are causing control problems. The fire was
contained on the 22nd.

2) FIRE ACTIVITY - 127 fires for 1,247 acres reported on Tuesday. Year-to-
date totals, 1989: 20,192 fires for 613,684 acres.

3) ANALYSIS - Increased fire activity is occurring in the southwest, Florida
and Colorado. There's a red flag warning for New Mexico and a red flag
watch for Arizona, where there will be strong, gusty winds of 20 to 40 mph
and temperatures from 95 to 105 in the deserts and from 75 to 85 in the
mountains.

4) PROGNOSIS - Fire activity is expected to continue.
