OTHER NEWS...

Exxon has decided to halt its efforts to pick up dead and dying birds and
animals, effective September 7th. The company ceased its wildlife rescue
and collection efforts Thursday off Kodiak Island despite a new wave of bird
deaths. Of the 34,044 sea, shore and migratory birds found dead since the
spill, two-thirds have been collected around the island. Exxon had
previously announced that it would discontinue clean-up operations on
September 15th. USFWS officials have expressed concern that the
cancellation of the wildlife rescue efforts is coming just as the fall bird
migration begins. (Jeff Berliner, UPI, 9/8/89).
