OFFICE NOTES

1) Norm Simons of Denali has advised us that a lab in New York is now
available for DNA blood typing of animals at no cost to the users. The lab

is interested in developing a data base for future use in animal research
and wildlife law enforcement, and will share their data with other labs.
Once the data base is developed, DNA blood sample analysis will probably
cost between $125 to $150. Please direct any inquiries to either Dr. Will
Gergitis or Nancy Casna at Life Codes, Sawmill River Road, Valhalla, New
York 10595 (1-800-543-3263).

2) Randy Coffman, a ranger/paramedic from Glacier, is in Ranger Activities
this week to work on revisions to NPS-51, the Service's EMS guideline. Once
he has completed his work, a draft will be sent to the regions for review.

3) A five-member workgroup (Don Weir, chief ranger, Fire Island; Fran
Gruchy, district ranger, Santa Monica; Karen Taylor-Goodrich, ranger,
Cumberland Island; Mark Marshall, ranger, Yellowstone; and John Courtney,
personnel staffing specialist, Grand Teton) is in Ranger Activities all week
to complete an outline of NPS-57, the draft health and fitness guideline.
