INCIDENTS

89-343 - Point Reyes (California) - Double Fatality

On November 28th, an abandoned vehicle was discovered near Pierce Point, and
a search was initiated for its occupants. The body of M.D., 40,
of San Francisco, was soon discovered at the base of a 250-foot-high
seashore cliff, but his roommate, K.O., 44, could not be found. A
search employing helicopters, dogs and ground searchers was begun, and a
Coast Guard helicopter later found K.O.'s body floating in the surf. A
coroner has conducted a preliminary examination of M.D. and concluded
that his death was accidental. (LeeRoy Brock, CR, PORE, via CompuServe
message from Herb Gercke, RAD/WRO).

Just after noon on the 26th, the park's narcotics detection dog, "Judge Roy
Bean", sniffed out marijuana in a 1981 Chevrolet truck owned and driven by
M.A.P. of Rio Grande City, Texas. The marijuana - a total of 32
pounds with a street value of $25,000 - was found concealed in secret
compartments in the side panels of the truck. M.A.P. was arrested and the
vehicle was turned over to Customs for disposal. (CompuServe message from
Capt. Jim Radney, RAD/SWRO).
