No new incidents reported.
OFFICE NOTES
1) It's come to our attention that a discrepancy exists in NPS-22, Chapter
10, page 2, section 1-a (Background Checks), last paragraph. The
parenthetical information - "also known as a Minimum Background
Investigation (MBI)" - is incorrect and should be lined out. The
information, if not corrected, could lead the reader to conclude that the
MBI and National Agency Check - Inquiries and Credit (NACIC) are identical
when they are not. There is also a considerable cost differential, as an
MBI costs $150 and an NACIC is $25. This could result in parks incurring
needless expenses if the wrong check is requested. We've also recently been
informed by OPM that an the prices for the two checks went up $19 and $23 on
January 1st. These additional costs are not reflected in the totals found
in the attachment. These additional costs pay for fingerprint searches by
the FBI. A memo on this correction was signed by the Associate Director,
Operations, on February 13th and sent to all regional directors.
