INCIDENTS

90-45 - Lake Mead (Nevada) - Drowning

On March 24th, J.B., 26, of Bullhead City, Arizona, was drinking with
two friends at South Telephone Cove when he decided to go into the lake to
sober up. Some time later, students from Northern Arizona University found
his body and began unsuccessful efforts at CPR. (Dispatch, LAME, via
CompuServe message from Herb Gercke, RAD/WRO, noon EST, 3/26/90).

90-46 - Grand Canyon (Arizona) - Search; Possible Drowning

A group of Boy Scouts were on an outing to Salt Water Wash on the 23rd. One
of their members, 13-year-old M.C. of Gilbert, Arizona, went with a
fellow Scout to wash clothes at the river's edge. His companion turned away;
when he turned back toward M.C., he found that the boy had disappeared. A
preliminary investigation indicated that the victim may have slipped into the
water. A search was begun employing divers from Glen Canyon, an aircraft and
several ground searchers. They were unable to find M.C., but did find a
piece of his clothing downstream. An active search was conducted over the
weekend, and current plans are to bring in a search dog and continue the
search at a lower level. (Tom Farrell, GRCA, via CompuServe message from Herb
Gercke, RAD/WRO, noon EST, 3/26/90).

90-47 - Clara Barton Parkway (Maryland) - MVA with Fatality

Just before 1 a.m. on the 26th, Park Police units responded to a reported
accident on the parkway near Lock Five. The first officer found that a Toyota
Celica had gone off the westbound lane of the parkway and overturned several
times. The operator, R.S. of Gaithersburg, Maryland, was ejected
from the vehicle and killed; both passengers were injured and transported to a
nearby hospital. T.S., the deceased's brother, was treated in the
shock-trauma unit and admitted to intensive care. The second passenger, J.P.,
was treated and released. The exact cause of the accident is
unclear, but speed appears to have been a contributing factor. (CompuServe
message from Cant. Dave Blackburn, RAD/NCRO, 10:00 EST, 3/26/90).
