On the morning of the 14th, C.W., 66, of Murrayville, Georgia,

finally brought to shore but without success. (Marvin Madry, CHAT, via

FIRE ACTIVITY
* Indian Fire - Big Cypress (Florida) -
The fire, which was reported to have burned about 600 acres as of yesterday
afternoon, started, on April 14th and is burning north of the Oasis ranger
station in mixed pine and prairies. The fire threatened three structures
and private inholdings, but they v/ere saved,, primarily through the skillful
use of a single-engine air tanker assigned, to the fire. The plane dropped
450 gallon loads of water with great accuracy and a short return time. Also
assigned to the fire were two crews (one Type I, one Type II), four
helicopters and two engines. Extreme fire behavior was reported on the
fire. Containment is now estimated for later today. The cause of the fire
is being investigated., but is believed to have been an unattended campfire.
