INCIDENTS

90-67 - Fort Jefferson (Florida) - Follow-up on Attempted Homicide

On May 2nd, the Coast Guard boarded the shrimping vessel Raven offshore from
Key West, Florida, and arrested D.F., who was wanted for an
attempted homicide which occurred at Fort Jefferson on April 17th. He was
transported to Key West and arraigned before a United States magistrate on
attempted homicide charges. D.F. is being held in lieu of the posting of
a $100,000 bond. Rangers continue to work with FBI agents and
representatives from the U.S. attorney's office in preparation for the
prosecution of the case against Fortner. (Telefaxed report from Mark Lewis,

4) FIRE ACTIVITY - 79 fires for 1,052 acres during 24-hour period ending
0530 MDT 5/8/90.

5) ANALYSIS - The fire potential remains high in southern Florida. The fire
danger is high in Yosemite and throughout much of Southwest Region, very
high in Big Cypress, Big Bend, Grand Canyon, Death Valley and Hawaii
Volcanoes, and extreme in Indiana Dunes and Carlsbad Caverns. Big
Cypress and Carlsbad are at Manning Class 5. Red flag conditions
continue at Grand Canyon.
