INCIDENTS
99-106 - Yellowstone (Wyoming) - Wildlife Offense Conviction
On May 22nd, G.S.B., 40, of Livingston, Montana, pleased guilty
to charges of illegally possessing wildlife parts and violating a condition
of his probation for his 1987 conviction of collecting antlers inside the
park. G.S.B. was arrested by park rangers on April 14, 1980, on the Stevens
Creek road in the north park of the park for removing and possessing 14 elk
antlers and a mule deer skull and rack from the Reese Creek area. G.S.B.
had been convicted in magistrate's court for the same offense on April 14,
1987, and had been banned from entering the park for three years. Under the
terms of a plea agreement with the U.S. Attorney's office, G.S.B. was fined
$500 for illegally possessing the wildlife parts, $200 for violating his
probation, assessed the cost of his court-appointed attorney, and sentenced
to 90 days in jail with 88 suspended. He was also placed on five year's
probation under the condition that he pay his fines and court costs and stay
out of Yellowstone until May 22, 1995. (CompuServe message from CRO, YELL,
10:30 a.m. EDT, 5/24/90).
99-107 - Rock Creek Park (D.C.) - Shooting
Two NPS employees discovered a Volvo parked in Grove 13 with an unconscious
male inside on May 22nd. Park Police officers responded and found the body
of a well-dressed, 61-year-old man in the car's right rear seat. He
apparently died of a gunshot wound. Members of the USPP criminal
investigations branch are investigating. (CompuServe message from RAD/NCRO,
10:30 a.m. EDT, 5/24/90).
99-108 - Natchez Trace (Mississippi/Tennessee) - MVA with Fatality
On the afternoon of May 19th, 35-year-old D.D. of Jackson,
Mississippi, was heading south on the parkway near Milepost 224 when he
apparently swerved to avoid a buzzard on the highway, ran off the road and
hit a tree. D.D., who was the only person in the car, was killed in the
accident. (Gene Phillips, NATR, via telefax from Capt. Steve Alscher,
RAD/SERO, 10 a.m. EDT, 5/23/90).
