4) FIRE ACTIVITY - 147 fires for 3,593 acres in past 24 hours.
5) FIRE DANGERS - The following parks are experiencing high to extreme fire

6) ANALYSIS - Very high to extreme conditions are being reported
throughout the Southwest and southwest Colorado. National parks report
the following:
* Everglades - When easterly winds return, the park will continue a
prescribed burn on the west boundary. Several pine block burns are
also scheduled for the near future.
* Cumberland Island - Fire danger is still very high. No significant
changes in the weather pattern are predicted.
* Bandelier - Thousand-hour fuels are eight percent. Statewide
restrictions are to go into effect at 8 a.m. tomorrow.
* Big Bend - Temps remain in the 105 - 113 degree range. No
precipitation is forecast. High elevation temperature around
95 degrees. Normal average high for June in the High Chisos (1985-89)
is about 83 degrees.
* Grand Canyon - Weather continues to be hot and dry. The park
has been at MC 5 all week.
* Chiricahua - Dry lightning is forecast for the area.
* Saguaro - Temperatures in the 105 - 107 degree range. Humidities
increasing due to Tropical Storm Boris.
7) PROGNOSIS - Fire activity is expected to increase in Arizona and
New Mexico with the onset of predicted dry thunderstorms.

OFFICE NOTES
1) Mario Fraire, Chief Personnel Officer in WASO, has sent the following
memorandum to regional, center and park personnel officers:
"We have been informed that the Office of Personnel Management (OEM) plans
to reopen the Administrative Careers with America (ACWA) announcement in
September. OEM will provide additional information at a later date. We
will keep you posted when we get further information from OEM on the
specific dates and exam coverage."
