INCIDENTS

90-296 - Big Thicket (Texas) - Follow-up on Firearms/Explosives Incident

Investigators have determined that the Turkey Creek area of the park was
used by the four members of C.C.'s "Recondo" group for maneuvers
in which no bombs, booby traps or explosives were employed. Since it now
appears that the group's explosives "training" occurred on private property
several miles from the park, no sweep of the area will be conducted for
explosives. According to members of the group, C.C. would take them
into the woods for a type of "hazing" in which candidates for the group
would be shot at and maced. After five such sessions, a candidate became a
full member. Investigation has also revealed that this C.C. was
not in the Army, and that he had been mistaken for another man with the same
name and date of birth who had been discharged from the 82nd Airborne for
weapons violations. (CompuServe message from Phil Young, RAD/SWRO, 9/5).

90-301 - Chattahoochee (Georgia) - Follow-up on Arrest for Attempted Rape

U.S. Magistrate John Dougherty has denied bail to S.A.C., 24,
who has been charged with two attempted rapes in the park, stating that
S.A.C. could pose a threat to women if freed. Two women who were attacked
near Sope Creek - one on August 13th, the other on August 16th - have
identified S.A.C. as the man who assaulted them. S.A.C. was arrested on
August 30th when he grabbed a ranger posing as a sunbather and pulled down
the top of her two-piece swimsuit. (United Press story, 9/6).
