INCIDENTS

90-412 - National Capital Parks East (Maryland) - Structural Fire

Near midnight on October 31st, an NPS-owned barn at the Accokeek Creek site
in Piscataway Park in NCP East burned to the ground. The barn was being
utilized by the National Colonial Farm to store hay under a special use
permit. Approximately 200 bales of hay were in the barn and were lost. The
local Accokeek volunteer fire department responded and put out the fire, but
had to return at least four more times over the next three days because of
the reignition of smoldering hay. Arson is suspected, and Park Police and
the state fire marshall's office are investigating. (CompuServe message
from Gregg Kneipp, NACE, 11/9).
