May 20, 1951 - Employees at Sequoia received the first unit citation for meritorious service given to the NPS for a rescue effort after rescuing an injured fisherman from the South Fork of the Kaweah River. Named in the citation were Jeff Adams, Jack Anderson, Bob Branges, Dick Boyer, Bruce Black, Joe Davis, "Corky" Johnson, John Rutter, Hank Schmidt, Lee Stiltz, Ted Thompson and Charley Wallace.
