INCIDENTS
93-48 - Prince William Forest (Virginia) - Explosives
A 2.36 inch bazooka round was discovered in a remote section of the park on
January 30th. The round was brought into the park's curatorial storage area
and law enforcement rangers were contacted. Members of the Fort Belvoir
emergency ordnance disposal (EOD) team arrived in the park the following
day. They determined that the round was highly unstable and had to be
disposed of immediately. After the area was secured and cordoned off from
the public, team members dug a hole, placed the round in it, covered the
hole with logs to prevent fragmentation, then detonated the round. [Ken
Kelley, RAD/NCRO, 2/3]
93-49 - Prince William Forest (Virginia) - Attempted Poaching
On January 23rd, rangers caught another would-be poacher with the park's
life-like deer decoy. The decoy was set up on park land parallel to state
Route 619. About a half hour later, a vehicle was spotted making several
passes by it. On the last pass, the vehicle stopped abreast of the decoy, a
weapon was extended from the driver's side window, and two shots were fired.
The vehicle was subsequently stopped, and the lone suspect was taken into
custody. He was charged with numerous violations, then released on his own
recognizance based on a recommendation from the assistant U.S. attorney.
This is the second decoy-related arrest in the past five weeks. [Ken
Kelley, RAD/NCRO, 2/3]

OPERATIONAL NOTES
1) Correction - Yesterday's report on EMS incidents in Lassen incorrectly
