INCIDENTS
93-757 - Natural Bridges (Utah) - Illegal Trespass
Around 2:30 a.m. on October 2nd, C.N., a volunteer living in park
housing, awoke to find an intruder in his residence. The man - later
identified as E.M., a 57-year-old homeless male from Flagstaff - was
talking loudly and incoherently, but was unarmed. C.N. ran to a nearby
residence and awakened the seasonal ranger living there; he took E.M. into
custody and detained him until a San Juan county deputy arrived and arrested
E.M. for criminal trespass. Deputies originally though that E.M. was
driving a stolen car, but subsequently discovered that he'd found the
vehicle, which had been abandoned on the roadside near Flagstaff, and had
gotten a locksmith to make him a key by convincing him that the car was his.
Since the vehicle hadn't been registered for a year and wasn't reported as
stolen, E.M. was not charged with vehicle theft. E.M. spent four days
in jail and was released October 6th after a psychiatric evaluation. E.M.
has a history of mental illness, and may still be in the southeast Utah
area. [Jim Dougan, CR, NABR, 10/7]
93-758 - Grand Teton (Wyoming) - Drug Arrests
On Saturday, October 2nd, an informant advised park investigators that a
pound or more of marijuana would be delivered to Jackson Lake Lodge either
that night or the following day. A joint park-state operation was begun
with the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation. Late on Sunday, D.V.
transported about a pound and a half of marijuana from Phoenix to the
lodge. D.V. was arrested after marijuana was seized from the vehicle he
was driving; also taken into custody was M.T., the vehicle's
registered owner, who later admitted that she'd loaned D.V. the vehicle
with full knowledge of the purpose of his trip. [Colin Campbell, LES, GRTE,
10/7]
93-759 - Petrified Forest (Arizona) - Stolen Vehicle; Juvenile Arrests
On September 30th, rangers responded to a report of two juveniles operating
a recreation vehicle without an adult present. When stopped, the juveniles,
aged 13 and 14, admitted that they'd stolen the RV from a neighbor in New
Mexico and that they were attempting to run away to Las Vegas, Nevada. The
two were arrested and taken to a juvenile detention center pending return to
their homes. [CRO, PEFO, 10/6]
