INCIDENTS
93-653 - Golden Gate (California) - Follow-up on Marijuana Eradication
Over 250 marijuana plants were spotted from the air on and around NPS lands
in Marin County on August 19th. During a subsequent flyover, DEA agents,
state and county rangers and local law enforcement officers discovered and
eradicated another 250 plants in north Marin park and open space lands
adjacent to Golden Gate boundaries. Another 1,000 plants were discovered in
a camouflaged greenhouse on nearby private property. A search warrant was
issued for the greenhouse and an arrest was made there later that day.

93-775 - New River Gorge (West Virginia) - Follow-up on Fatal Shooting
On October 19th, T.H., 27, was killed while hunting in the park
with two companions. Two days later, rangers arrested W.G., Sr.,
of Terry, West Virginia, for negligent shooting and hunting without a
license. The investigation into T.H.'s death is continuing; further

93-776 - Lake Mead (Nevada) - Drowning
G.P., 58, of Descanso, California, was reported missing on October
20th after he accidentally fell overboard from his boat at Sandy Point in
Cottonwood Cove. The park's four-member dive team subsequently recovered

Although the course will not be held until 4/10-15/94, the
deadline for nominations is November 1st. The course is
directed towards park managers who have significant
responsibility for fire management in regions and parks. One-
page nominations should be sent in regional priority order to
Paul Broyles in the Branch of Fire and Aviation Management in
