RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
Craters of the Moon (Idaho) - Trespass Grazing
The park continues to experience problems with livestock trespassing from
neighboring BLM grazing allotments. Although efforts are underway to fence
the boundary, sheep continue to enter the park around the end of the
existing fence - 116 last week alone. The sheep were already trespassing on
the BLM land, and the park is working to establish a value to the damages
inflicted in order to collect restitution from either the sheep owner or the
BLM when the impounded sheep are sold at auction. If any park has developed
a method for establishing the value of impact from livestock damage, the
park would like to hear from you. Please contact park resource management
via cc:Mail, or at 208-527-3257. [Jon Jarvis, Superintendent]
