INCIDENTS
93-834 - Big Thicket (Texas) - Sexual Assault
On November 29th, the Orange County sheriff's office advised the park that a
15-year-old girl had been sexually assaulted in the Four Oaks day use area
during the late evening of November 20th. The victim stated that she'd
consented to sexual acts with two males, aged 18 and 19, after riding with
them to Louisiana to purchase and consume alcoholic beverages. The victim's
parents, however, requested prosecution of the two men. The investigation
is continuing. [Kim Coast, LES, BITH, 11/30]
93-835 - Shenandoah (Virginia) - Poaching
An investigation into the November 24th poaching of a white-tail deer in the
Powell Mountain area of the park led to charges being filed against S.L.D.,
Jr., 27, of Elkton, Virginia, for illegal hunting and possession
of a loaded weapon within the park. Following the collection of physical
evidence at the scene, S.L.D. was interviewed and confessed to shooting a
seven-point buck from the road. He is scheduled to appear in court next
Tuesday. S.L.D.'s 12-gauge shotgun and the deer's rack were taken as evidence
and forfeiture may be sought. [Bob Martin, RPS, SHEN, 11/29]
RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
No field reports today.
NOTES
1) American Express Cards - Employees who recently received government
account American Express cards also received a letter which contained a PIN
number and an indication that it could be used to obtain cash from any ATM
machine. The letter was in error, and American Express is taking immediate
steps to deactivate these PINs. A letter explaining the error will also be
issued. The cards must not be used at ATMs to obtain cash.
2) Communications with R&R Uniforms - If you found that you have been unable
to contact R&R Uniforms this week, it's because the phone system for the
entire industrial park in which R&R is located crashed early Monday morning.
All regular, 800 and fax phone lines went down. The phone system was
restored at 4 p.m. CST yesterday.
3) Correction - The number listed in Monday's morning report whereby
interested parties could contact Mark Forbes or John Townsend for more
information on use of cards for fee collection was incorrect. The correct
number is 202-208-4205, not 4025.
4) Clarification - Mount Rainier was inadvertently moved to Oregon on
yesterday's morning report (93-829). A quick call to the West Coast
revealed that the mountain is still in Washington, and that the incident
actually took place at Crater Lake. We regret the error. No need to send
any more witty cc:Mail messages, thank you.
