INCIDENTS

94-608 - War in the Pacific (Guam)/American Memorial (Saipan) - Follow-up on
         Typhoon Wilda

Super Typhoon Wilda made its closest approach to the islands around 6 p.m. on
October 25th - about 55 miles northeast of Saipan and about 185 miles northeast
of Guam. Fortunately, the storm, which packed sustained winds of 150 mph and
gusts up to 185 mph, turned on a northerly at that time and moved away from the
area. Both parks are open and operational. Damages at War in the Pacific were
minimal. There was some washover of Ga'an Point, and all the trees recently
planted at the Asan Bay overlook blew down. American Memorial Park sustained
more extensive damage. Since the winds there were over 115 mph, some 30 or 40
large trees were blown down and a major "reorganization" of Micro Beach
occurred. The pavilion at that beach is now acting as a breakwater at high
tides. No other structural damage occurred there or on Guam, however. A six-
man cleanup crew has been dispatched to Saipan to assist with the removal of
down and damaged trees and shrubs. They will be working two days to assist the
small resident crew. The park should be back in full operation in about a
week. [Ed Wood, Superintendent, WAPA/AMME, 10/28]

94-619 - Valley Forge (Pennsylvania) - MVA with Fatality

M.K., 67, was killed in a two-car motor vehicle accident on Route 23
on October 24th. A vehicle driven by S.L. crossed the center line
of the two lane road and struck the vehicle in which M.K. was riding in the
driver's side rear door, where she was sitting. Investigators believe
S.L. may have been driving under the influence. [Clark Guy, RAD/MARO,
10/25]
