INCIDENTS
95-132 - Natchez Trace (Mississippi/Alabama/Tennessee) - MVA with Fatality
W.E., 44, of Van Fleet, Mississippi, was attempting to turn onto the
parkway near mile marker 226.5 on April 2nd when he collided with a southbound
vehicle and was killed instantly. W.E. was traveling with another motorcyclist
at the time and his vision may have been obstructed by his companion. [Gordon
Wissinger, CR, NATR, 4/3]
95-133 - Cape Cod (Massachusetts) - Attempted Rape
During the early morning hours of March 31st, a 27-year-old woman hitchhiking
on Route 6 was picked up by a man and driven to the Marconi Beach parking lot,
where he attempted to rape her, threatening her with a knife. The woman
escaped from the vehicle and successfully evaded her assailant by running into
the adjacent woods. After wandering around lost for some time, she was able to
flag down a newspaper carrier who called police via his cellular phone.
Rangers and local police are investigating. [Bill Hooper, CI, CACO, 4/3]
RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
Yellowstone (Wyoming) - Follow-up on Wolf Reintroduction
As of yesterday, all 14 wolves were out of their pens and in the park. Five of
the six Crystal Bench wolves had moved north into the Cache Creek drainage; the
lone male was about three miles south of the Crystal Bench acclimation site.
The Rose Creek wolves had moved back to the park from the Absaroka-Beartooth
wilderness. The two adults were found in an area east of the confluence of
Cache Creek and the Lamar River; the young female was located just south of the
Crystal Bench pen. The Soda Butte wolves were back near their acclimation
site. The wolves killed and fed upon a buffalo and an elk calf over the
weekend. [Marsha Karle, PAO, YELL]
