INCIDENTS

95-166 - East Mojave (California) - MVA with Fatality

S.G. was killed in a one car accident on Kelso-Cima Road on April 7th.
S.G. and two companions were touring the park when the accident occurred; both
companions were seriously injured. Rangers from the Hole-in-the-Wall ranger
station responded along with state officers. That section of the road is one
of the many "low flying zones" in the park on which vehicles often exceed 85
mph. [CRO, MOJA, 4/19]

95-167 - Yosemite (California) - MVA with Multiple Injuries

Four visitors were injured in an accident on Northside Drive on April 9th in
which a small car crossed into the path of a one-ton Dodge pickup. Two
suffered serious injuries. It took park firefighters and medics over an hour
to extract one victim due to extensive damage to the car. All four were taken
to the park clinic; the two who were seriously injured were subsequently flown
to a hospital in Modesto. [CRO, YOSE, 4/17]

95-168 - Jefferson National Expansion (Missouri) - Arson

A ranger parked his Cushman patrol vehicle at the south leg of the Arch while
using the building to complete a report around 3:30 a.m. on April 14th. When
he came out an hour later, he discovered a burning trash can in the vehicle's
bed. All four tires had been slashed and the gas cap removed. The fire was
quickly extinguished. No suspects have been identified, but the investigation
continues. Damage has been placed at more than $500. [Deryl B. Stone, CR,
JEFF, 04/18]

OPERATIONAL NOTES

1) Security Alert - Although details are not yet known about the attack on the
federal building in Oklahoma City yesterday, it is appropriate for NPS
employees to exercise heightened caution in coming days. It is known the
facility housed local offices of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms
(ATF) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA); accordingly, any
facilities we share with those agencies or other law enforcement entities are
particularly worthy of special precautions. [Maj. Dale Dickerhoof, RAD/WASO]
