INCIDENTS

95-172 - Blue Ridge (North Carolina/Virginia) - Homicide

A visitor who stopped at a parkway overlook near Linville, North Carolina, at
10 a.m. on April 4th discovered a body in a nearby laurel thicket. Rangers and
county and state investigators closed off the area and conducted a crime scene
search. The victim, who was between 18 and 20 years old, had been shot
numerous times at close range. The time of death was within six hours of the
discovery of the body. Initial evidence suggests that the homicide occurred at
the overlook and that the body was thrown over the side. [CRO, BLRI, 4/20]

94-173 - Prince William Forest (Virginia) - Suicide

The body of a 49-year-old man was found near the New Breck Road boat launch on
April 14th. The victim died from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The incident was reported to military police at Quantico Marine Corps Base and
investigated by Navy CID and the county sheriff's office. The park was not
notified until April 19th due to a jurisdictional question. [PRWI, 4/20]

RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

Yellowstone (Wyoming) - Update on Wolf Reintroduction

Most of the wolves released in Yellowstone were found outside of the park
during a telemetry flight made late last week. The Soda Butte group was
located about two miles north of the park near the Cutoff Mountain area of the
Absaroka-Beartooth wilderness area in the Gallatin National Forest. The alpha
pair from the Rose Creek group was not found, but was last seen in roughly the
same area; the single female was near Tower Junction. Five of the members of
the Crystal Bench group were located about 35 miles northeast of the park in
the Custer National Forest; the young male was still in the central portion of
the Lamar River drainage.
