INCIDENTS

95-600 - Crater Lake (Oregon) - Burglary; Concession Employees Arrested

During the night of September 4th, two people broke into the Rim Village gift
shop and took between $1,000 and $1,500 in goods. Although it was very dark
inside the building, investigating rangers were able to glean sufficient
information from a surveillance camera video tape to identify and arrest two
concession employees - D.K., 23, of Eugene, Oregon, and J.G.,
21, of Chico, California. A warrant for is being sought for a third employee,
M.M., 19, of Maple Plain, Minnesota, who left the area immediately after
the break-in. [Mark Forbes, CCSSO]

95-601 - Yosemite (California) - Methamphetamine Distribution Arrests

On September 1st, rangers and investigators from the Wawona and Valley
Districts executed search warrants and arrested two people - P.M.-F.,
37, and J.D., 34, both of Wawona - on charges of possession
of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, conspiracy to distribute
narcotics, and being under the influence of narcotics. An ounce of
methamphetamine, paraphernalia, business records, scales, packaging material
and a vehicle were seized in the raid. The arrests capped a four-month
investigation by criminal investigator Greg Jablonski and ranger Evan Jones
which was begun following receipt of complaints by local residents and the
suicide of another local resident who was a client of the methamphetamine
distribution network. [Jeff Sullivan, CI, YOSE]

95-602 - Blue Ridge (Virginia/North Carolina) - Marijuana Cultivation Arrest

Ranger Edward Clark and state game officers were patrolling a backcountry area
of the Peaks/Valley District for ginseng poachers on September 2nd when they
ran into S.P. of Writz, Virginia, who immediately threw a large
duffel bag in some brush and began emptying his pockets. The duffel bag was
found to contain about four pounds of marijuana. A search of the area led to
the discovery of 15 large plants; more marijuana was found in a consent search
of S.P.'s residence. He has been charged with felony possession with the
intent to distribute and with manufacture of marijuana. [CRO, BLRI]

95-603 - Biscayne (Florida) - Cocaine Trafficking Arrests

During the week of September 5th, rangers joined other members of the Blue
Lightning Strike Force in the execution of Operation Harbormaster, a drug
interdiction operation. A 31-foot vessel was tracked inbound from the Bahamas
on September 6th and intercepted offshore from the park in U.S. territorial
waters. Approximately 760 pounds of cocaine were found in a search of the
vessel. The occupants were arrested and the boat was seized. As a member of
the strike force, the park has participated in four multi-agency interdiction
operations this fiscal year. [Wayne Elliott, CR, BISC]
