INCIDENTS

99-706 - Manassas NBP (VA) - Vandalism

At approximately 6:50 a.m. on the morning of November 26th, ranger Barbara Mauller
discovered what appeared to be oil poured on all four sides of the center monument in the
Groveton Confederate cemetery. The marble monument was significantly discolored by the oil.
It appears that the vandalism is similar to that which occurred at Gettysburg on November
18th. [Barbara Mauller, PR, MANA, 11/28]

99-707 - Sequoia/Kings Canyon NPs (CA) - Suicide

On October 31st, the park received a report that M.M., 59, of Visalia, was missing
and reportedly suicidal. His vehicle was found the next day about 18 miles up Mineral King
Road. Rangers, the park's criminal investigator, and local deputies and officers found his body
nearby. He had hung himself. His death has been ruled a suicide. [Bob Wilson, LES, SEKI,
11/23]
