  ALMANAC
  
  On this day in 1732, George Washington was born on a plantation in 
  Westmoreland County, Virginia.  George Washington Birthplace National 
  Monument contains remains of the plantation and a "memorial mansion" 
  intended to resemble his birth house.
  
  INCIDENTS
  
  00-058 - Saratoga NHP (NY) - Homicide
  
  On the morning of February 18th, state police investigators advised 
  rangers that they were conducting an operation in and around park 
  lands. There were looking for R.W., 91, who had been missing from 
  the town of Colonie since February 10th. Investigators had information 
  on two suspects, one of whom was attempting to help them locate R.W.'s 
  body. He reported that the body had been dumped onto a field near a 
  sign that said "Entering National Park Service Lands." The gagged and 
  bound body was found in a snow bank along the park's boundary on Bill 
  Smith Road. State and Colonie police are investigating. [Jim Gorman,

  00-059 - National Capital Parks (DC) - Homicide
  
  Metro Transit police reported finding an unconscious man with several 
  gunshot wounds in Fort Totten Park around 5:30 a.m. on February 16th. 
  Park Police officers investigated. The man was taken to Washington 
  Hospital Center, where he later died. The investigation continues.

  PARKS AND PEOPLE
  
  Capitol Reef NP (UT) - The park is currently advertising a GS-025-7/9 
  permanent , full-time park ranger position in its Visitor and Resource 
  Protection Division.  The job is on USA Jobs under announcement number 
  IMDE-00-19 with a closing date of March 3rd.  The position requires a 
  commission and has 6(c) primary designation; duties include both 
  frontcountry and backcountry patrol.  Capitol Reef, a 378-square-mile 
  park, is known for its extensive backcountry and the slot canyons of 
  the Waterpocket Fold.  For additional information contact Tom Cox at

  Mount Rainier NP (WA) - The park is seeking applications for its GS-13 
  chief ranger position, which is currently being evaluated for 6c 
  coverage. Check USA Jobs for the vacancy announcement. It opens today 
  and will close on March 14th. For additional information, contact

  Glacier NP (MT) - Suzanne Lewis has been named the new superintendent 
  at Glacier NP. Her career began 22 years ago at Gulf Islands NS in 
  Florida and Mississippi, where she served as a seasonal ranger, park 
  historian and management assistant. Subsequent positions included an 
  international program detail to Haiti, acting superintendency of 
  Christiansted NHS/Buck Island Reef NM, and superintendencies of 
  Timucuan E&HP and Chattahoochee River NRA. She's also a graduate of 
  DOI's SES program.
