NATIONAL PARK SERVICE
                           MORNING REPORT

To: All National Park Service Areas and Offices

From: Division of Ranger Activities, Washington Office

Day/Date: Monday, May 28, 2001

                            *** NOTICE ****

The format of the Morning Report has been revised slightly. The
changes go into effect today. There will now be separate weekly
sections for each day of the week, as follows:

o Mondays - Alternating calendars - training on one week,
   meetings/events the next.
o Tuesdays - Updates on Congress.
o Wednesdays - Monthly updates from divisions under the Associate
   Director, Park Operations and Education.
o Thursdays - "Lessons Learned," a new section for sharing ideas and
practices that may help others from "reinventing the wheel" or
making more serious mistakes, i.e. findings of boards of inquiry
or review (as appropriate), noteworthy discoveries on new and more
effective ways of doing business, safety tips, etc. Open to ALL
   divisions.
o Fridays - News on parks and rangers in other countries.

There will also be an intermittent section called "Q&A" in which the
Associate Director, Park Operations and Education will answer
questions submitted from the field on Servicewide matters. The
objective is to provide information instead of relying on hearsay and
rumor. Questions should be as specific as possible. Send them to the
editor, who will forward them to WASO. Anonymity can be provided if
desired. Priority attention will be given to those that are most
timely or have the broadest relevance to NPS employees.

Please also see the standing section on submission criteria that
appears below the asterisks at bottom.
