Wind Storm Damages Regional Office
Winds of 60 miles per hour and higher ripped through Anchorage on
Wednesday evening, knocking out power and causing substantial damage to
structures throughout the downtown area and West Anchorage. Two large
sections of the regional office building were blown off and insulation
and building materials were scattered all over. Glacial silt whipped
down from the Matanuska Valley and dust churned up from the Anchorage
area coated everything with a veneer of chalky grit. Numerous fires
throughout the region kept firefighters busy. Air quality alerts were
also posted for the city. Additional details will appear in Monday's
Morning Report and InsideNPS.
