Follow-up on Search for Missing Person
A whale-watching group on Jordan Island came upon the body of a man
on Sunday, May 25th. The remains were subsequently identified as those
of 30-year-old C.C., who had been missing since the
morning of April 28th. C.C. was described as despondent and last seen
outside his home adjacent to the park. Rangers, Bar Harbor PD officers
and state game wardens searched unsuccessfully for C.C. for a week.
Jordan Island is approximately six miles east of his home, across
Frenchman's Bay. The cause of death is unknown and under investigation
by Maine State Police.

Rescue from Otter Cliffs
On the afternoon of June 3rd, climber D.S., 19, of Wolfburg,
New Hampshire, sustained a crushed ankle/leg injury and laceration to
the top of his head after falling between 20 and 30 feet to an ocean
side ledge at Otter Cliffs. D.S. was being top-roped on a popular route
called "A Dare By the Sea" when he fell. This pulled the belayer from
his stance, causing him to let go of the rope and drop D.S. to the
ledge below. D.S. was placed in a litter by several rangers who
rappelled the 60 feet to his location. He was then taken into a waiting
Coast Guard vessel, which helped transport him to Mt. Desert Hospital in
Bar Harbor.

Drowning in Cottonwood Cove
On June 1st, J.C., five, wandered away from his family at
the Cottonwood Cove swimming area. He'd been told not to go into the

swimmer stepped on his submerged body and pulled J.C. out of the
water. Rangers were on scene within two minutes and began CPR. A
pediatric ER doctor was on scene and assisted with the resuscitation
efforts. The boy was flown by helicopter to a hospital in Las Vegas,
where he was pronounced dead.

Fatal Accident - Vehicle Over Embankment
Park fee collectors informed rangers that a vehicle had come through
the Lake Mead Drive that was being driven erratically and whose driver
might be drunk. While attempting to find the vehicle, a ranger came upon
evidence of a recent accident on Lakeshore Drive and found a vehicle
matching the description of the one he was seeking about 50 feet down an
embankment. The vehicle had incurred major damage; the driver and sole
occupant was deceased. Alcohol is suspected to have been a contributing
factor.
