NATIONAL PARK SERVICE MORNING REPORT BLACKBERRY EDITION Tuesday, March 14, 2006 =============================================================================================================== INCIDENTS Blue Ridge Parkway Two Fatal Motor Vehicle Accidents The park had two fatal accidents last weekend. On Saturday, March 11th, a 31-year-old man from Raleigh, North Carolina, was killed when the vehicle he was operating left the road at the Hominy Valley Overlook (milepost 404.2). He was ejected upon impact. It appears that the vehicle was traveling northbound on the parkway at a high rate of speed when it veered into the overlook and over the side of the mountain. Investigation revealed that authorities in Raleigh had issued an "attempt to locate" bulletin on the driver and vehicle the day before, regarding the driver as suicidal. On Sunday, March 12th, a 44-year-old man from Fletcher, North Carolina, was killed when his Kawasaki motorcycle went off the road and hit a rock wall near Graveyard Fields (milepost 418.4). A companion who was riding with him said that they were going about 45 to 50 miles per hour when his friend failed to negotiate a curve and hit the rocks.
