OTHER NEWS Other news from today's edition of InsideNPS, the National Park Service's home page: President's Park - President George W. Bush is expected to officially light the National Christmas Tree opening the 83rd annual Christmas Pageant of Peace on Thursday, December 7th. Whitman Mission NHP - In October 2006, the staff at Whitman Mission received three certificates of recognition from the US Environmental Protection Agency's “Champions of Environmental Leadership and Green Government Innovation Recognition Program.” Santa Monica Mountains NRA - The home of a park horse patrol volunteer was destroyed in the Shekell fire on Sunday, December 3rd. Her mother also lost her home, and a trailer containing all of the tack belonging to another volunteer horse patrol member was destroyed. DAPC - Diane Sontag retired from her position as human resources officer for the Denver Administrative Program Center on December 1st after 31 years of federal service. Yellowstone NP - On December 7th, the park will be issuing a merit promotion announcement for permanent full time and subject-to-furlough ranger positions in the Old Faithful, Lamar and West areas, and may also use this announcement to fill other vacancies in the future. Biscayne NP - The park is recruiting for a GS-12 chief of maintenance. The announcement closes on December 19th.
