NATIONAL PARK SERVICE MORNING REPORT Friday, January 5, 2007 =============================================================================================================== INCIDENTS Blue Ridge Parkway Family Of Four Survives Airplane Crash On Saturday, December 30th, a 1963 Beechcraft Musketeer carrying a family of four crashed near Lane Pinnacle on Blue Ridge Parkway. They suffered only minor cuts and abrasions in the accident and were able to walk out via the Mountains to Sea trail. The pilot of the plane, which was en route from Columbus, Ohio, to Orlando, Florida, said that he'd run into heavy fog and was trying to get under it when he hit the side of the mountain. NPS personnel and members of the Reems Creek, Barnardsville and Buncombe County fire and rescue squads found the accident site and escorted the family out. FAA and NTSB investigators are reviewing the incident with the pilot.
