D.W. was arrested for DUI and for driving while suspended. A search incident to the arrest led to the discovery of numerous items of marijuana paraphernalia, prescription drugs, 25 grams of marijuana packaged for sale, and a box of ammunition. The passenger and registered owner, S.C., was also arrested. Investigators determined that both D.W. and S.C. were habitual drug users, that one of them had recently possessed and fired a handgun, and that both had ammunition in their possession. D.W. also had numerous felony convictions that made it a federal felony for him to possess either a firearm or ammunition. Special agents filed a five-count criminal complaint against D.W. and a four-count complaint against S.C. On May 17th, D.W. was indicted on all five and S.C. was indicted on three. [Brian Smith, Special Agent In Charge] Lake Mead NRA PWC Operator's Body Recovered From Lake Park dispatch received a call about a possible drowning at Special Events Beach, a part of Boulder Beach on the Nevada side of the park, around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 3rd. Rangers and state wildlife wardens responded in four boats and were on scene ten minutes later; other rangers, wardens and EMS personnel responded by vehicle. A PWC without a rider was found adrift off the beach, and operators of other PWCs advised rangers regarding the point where he'd last been seen. About an hour later, they recovered the body of a 44-year-old Las Vegas man in 15 feet of water about 100 yards from shore. He was not wearing a life jacket. An investigation is underway, but rangers have so far determined the following: The man and a female companion launched their PWCs at Special Events Beach. The man's PWC became disabled, and he may have entered the water in an effort to determine what was wrong. Witnesses soon saw him disappear under the lake's surface. Several visitors on PWCs tried to find him, but were unsuccessful. This was the 11th fatality of the year at Lake Mead. [Roxanne Dey, Public Affairs Officer] Acadia NP Woman Drowns In Ocean On the afternoon of June 1st, the Coast Guard received a cell phone call reporting that a woman had fallen into the water in a rocky area along Schoodic Point. Rangers responded on-shore, and a 41-foot Coast Guard utility boat was dispatched from Southwest Harbor, arriving on scene within 20 minutes. They pulled 56-year-old F.W. from the ocean and began CPR. She was transferred to an ambulance at Winter Harbor and was later pronounced dead. The park is investigating the accident.
