NATIONAL PARK SERVICE MORNING REPORT Monday, June 11, 2007 =============================================================================================================== INCIDENTS Zion NP Hiker Falls To Death From Angels Landing B.G., 53, of St. Louis, Missouri, fell to his death while hiking the Angels Landing trail on Friday, June 8th. Park dispatch received a call from family members just before noon, reporting that he'd fallen from the trail at a point between Scouts Lookout and the summit of Angels Landing. Rangers found his body at the base of the cliff. It's estimated that he fell about a thousand feet. The incident is being investigated by the park and the Washington County Sheriff's Office. [David Eaker, Fire Information and Education Specialist] HYPERLINK "http://deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,660228165,00.html" http://deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,660228165,00.html Big Thicket NP Man Presumed Drowned In Neches River On May 14th, witnesses reported that they'd seen visitor J.D. struggling to stay afloat in the Neches River near the Lakeview Sandbar day use area and that he'd then been swept downstream. A search was begun for him by the park and by the Orange County Sheriff's Office and Orange County Fire and Emergency Services, but no sign of him was found. J.D. is now presumed to have drowned and the search has been scaled back.
