NATIONAL PARK SERVICE MORNING REPORT Wednesday, January 19, 2011 INCIDENTS Grand Canyon National Park Traffic Stop Leads To Significant Drug Seizure Ranger Will Jaynes stopped a vehicle on South Entrance Road for a speeding violation on the evening of December 21st. While talking with the operator, Jaynes smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Once the two occupants exited the truck, the driver was asked how much marijuana he had in the truck; he responded that he had a pound. The exact amount came to 594.9 grams of individually packaged marijuana. Also found in the truck were a scale and $5,440 in cash, some of it packaged in $1,000 amounts. Rangers are working with Investigative Services Branch special agents on the case. Several felony charges are being filed, including possession of a controlled substance and distribution.
