He was a superintendent in Washington and New York before being named the National Park Service's first African American deputy director in 1977. Photo. Intermountain Region - One hundred and fifty years ago, a drama unfolded in Apache Pass that most historians believe sparked the Apache Wars of America's southwest. On Saturday, February 12th, Fort Bowie National Historic Site commemorated the 150th anniversary of the event. NPS/FLETC - Federal Ammunition has issued a safety warning for 45 Auto ammunition and a recall that covers several loads and lot numbers for both Federal and American Eagle ammunition. Grand Teton NP - Ira Blitzblau has been selected as the deputy chief ranger at Grand Teton National Park.
