Grand Canyon NP

Teenager Rescued From Below Canyon Rim


The park received a report of an injured man beneath the canyon rim near Mather Point just after 7 a.m. last Saturday. Arriving rangers found a 19-year-old man approximately ten feet below the rim. Within 20 minutes of the initial call, they had made it down to him and began stabilizing his injuries and preparing him for transport. By 8:25 a.m., he'd been lifted to the, rim, where he was met by the park's ambulance and taken to Grand Canyon Clinic with non-life threatening injuries. [Shannan Marcak, Public Affairs Specialist]


Bighorn Canyon NRA

Two Pryor Mountain Mustangs Hit And Killed


Two Pryor Mountain mustangs were killed within the Pryor Mountain Wild Horse Range around 2 a.m. last Sunday morning. These mustangs are considered very special because of their direct colonial Spanish American heritage. A driver found the dead horses along U.S. Highway 37 near Crooked Creek Bay and notified rangers and county deputies. The horses were identified as “A.” and “K./C.H.” Investigation led to the arrest of a 26-year-old man from Germantown, Tennessee, on suspicion of driving under the influence. He was also issues citations for operating a vehicle with a breath alcohol concentration of .08 or greater, unsafe operation/failure to maintain control, destruction of natural resources, and moving a vehicle from an accident scene. Jimmy Carter NHS - Baseball fans of all ages recently came to the park to see a living legend of the Negro League. Roosevelt Jackson, the oldest living Negro League baseball player, visited the site and talked about his years in the league, where he played for teams that included the Danny Dodgers, the Hollywood Redbirds, and the Fort Lauderdale Braves.


Flagstaff National Monuments - Over 100,000 archives, archeological objects, and natural history specimens from the Flagstaff Area National Monuments(Sunset Crater Volcano, Walnut Canyon, and Wupatki) are being moved to the new Easton Collections Center at the Museum of Northern Arizona in Flagstaff. Office of Communications - Secretary Salazar has announced the designation of four new National Historic Landmarks in four states, including a pre-Columbian flint quarry in North Dakota, a colonial-era Pennsylvania German house, and a 20th Century Oregon house of the Northwest Style.


US Park Police - On Wednesday, July 6th, United States Park Police Explorer Post #1791 hosted 30 law enforcement Explorers from across the country while they participated in the FBI Explorer Leadership Academy.
