INCIDENTS

Cape Hatteras NS

Body Of Missing Kite Boarder Found

C.J., 44, of Rodanthe, North Carolina, disappeared while kite boarding in the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean just off Cape Point on the afternoon of Sunday, September 18th. Conditions at the time consisted of six- to ten-foot-high surf with strong converging currents and winds from the northeast at 20 to 25 knots. C.J., the assistant manager of a local water sports company and considered an expert kite boarder, was last seen by bystanders in distress 30 yards offshore. A two-day multi-agency search for him was conducted but proved fruitless. C.J.'s body was found by NPS staff at Cape Lookout National Seashore last Wednesday - 35 miles from the points where he'd last been seen. [Jon Anglin, Operations Chief, Outer Banks Group]
