NATIONAL PARK SERVICE MORNING REPORT Friday, December 2, 2011 INCIDENTS Colonial NHP Suicide Victim Found Near Colonial Parkway Rangers received a report of a shooting on the Colonial Parkway near the Fusilier's Memorial late on the morning of Wednesday, November 30th. Upon arrival, they were directed to a short trail adjacent to the parking lot, where they found the victim of what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The 36-year-old Yorktown man was pronounced dead at the scene. Rangers will be conducting an investigation in conjunction with the York County Sheriff's Office. The fortification was built between 1808 and 1811 and served as a defense of New York Harbor during the War of 1812. Office of Policy - The NPS Arrowhead Pride Committee has added a number of new items to the arrowhead store for this year's holiday season. A link is provided. Grand Canyon NP - On Tuesday, November 22nd, Grand Canyon National Park passed the final inspection necessary to become the nation's second StormReady national park. Denver Service Center - Ed Nieto is retiring on December 31st following 35 years with the National Park Service. He is currently an architect and illumination specialist for DSC's Design and Construction Technical Branch. Pacific West Region - June Jones, regional web coordinator for Pacific West Region, will be retiring on December 31st after 35 years of federal service, including 27 years with the NPS. Servicewide Training Calendar - A compilation of upcoming training courses and conferences across the nation, plus online training.
