C&O Canal NHP

Arsonist Sets Fire To Restroom Facility


On Tuesday, December 7th, rangers discovered that a restroom facility had been set on fire near the Big Slackwater boat ramp in Washington County, Maryland. A joint investigation is underway with the Maryland State Fire Marshall's Office. A reward is offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for setting the fire. Anyone with information regarding this crime may call the park hotline at 1-866-714-2250. [Hollie Lynch]

Office of Communications - The National Park Service is rolling out videos carrying holiday greetings from national parks across the country. A new one will appear each day through the end of the year.


Natural Resource Program Center - John Bunyak, chief of the Air Resources Division's Policy, Planning, and Permit Review Branch, is retiring at the end of 2011 following a 34 year Federal career, including 29 years with the NPS.


Natural Resource Program Center - Dee Morse is retiring at the end of 2011 following a 36 year career with the National Park Service.


Denver Service Center - Dolly Fernandez, chief of contracting services for Denver Service Center, will retire on December 31st after 29 years of federal service, eight years of that with the NPS.
