Man Arrested Following Assault On Former Girlfriend

A woman arranged to meet her estranged boyfriend in the park's Barataria Preserve on February 9th to that he could safely visit with their son in a public place. When she arrived there, she found that he was extremely intoxicated on Vicodin and marijuana and therefore immediately terminated the visit and attempted to leave the park in her vehicle. The man became enraged and began using his SUV to force her out of her lane of travel and into the oncoming traffic lane. The woman and child were in fear for their lives, with the child screaming that “daddy is trying to hurt my mommy.” A ranger came upon the unfolding incident and pursue the SUV. The patrol car video camera recorded the man trying to hide a bag of marijuana by throwing it into the road just as the pursuit ended. He was arrested by the ranger. [Georgia A. Shaw, Chief Ranger]
