Mammoth Cave NP

Visitor Dies During Cave Tour


A visitor touring Mammoth Cave died while on a cave tour on Wednesday afternoon. W.M., 67, of Bronson, Florida, was on the 11 a.m. historic cave tour when he became ill in River Hall, about a mile and a half into the two-mile tour. The tour guides telephoned their supervisor on the surface for assistance and immediately began CPR. Rangers administered CPR and applied an AED, but without success. Park personnel and Edmonson County EMS personnel assisted in the incident. [Vickie T. Carson, Public Information Officer]

Office of Communications - Junior Ranger Day at Thomas Edison NHP was particularly special for one young visitor. Via video link, Director Jarvis announced to a group of junior rangers gathered at the park that 11-year old Rachel Koblitz had become the 10,000th WebRanger.


Intermountain Region - Rob Billerbeck, former head of natural and cultural resource stewardship for Colorado State Parks, has been named Colorado River coordinator for the National Park Service.


Fire and Aviation Management - The winners of the 2011 National Park Service fuels and ecology awards have been selected.


Servicewide Training and Conference Calendar - A compilation of upcoming training courses and conferences across the nation, plus online training.  The following entries have been added to this week's calendar - an ARPA training course at Buffalo NR and three National Register of Historic Places webinars.
