Father And Son Drown In Lake

On the morning of July 8th, dispatch received several 911 calls reporting that a man and a child had been found floating in the water about 25 yards off the shoreline of Six Mile Cove. Neither was wearing a PFD. They were brought to shore and CPR was begun. Rangers were on scene within 15 minutes and took over emergency medical care with the assistance of park medics. Despite their efforts and further attempts to resuscitate the child at University Medical Center in Las Vegas, neither the 36-year-old man nor his six-year-old son survived. Rangers Make Numerous Arrests During Holiday Week

Warm weather and high water levels brought many people to the park over the week surrounding July Fourth - and, with the high visitation, a rash of enforcement problems. Between Thursday, June 28th, and Sunday, July 8th, rangers made 36 arrests, including seven DUI incidents, three incidents of domestic violence, six felony warrant arrests, and eight arrests for public intoxication. They also issued 52 citations for a variety of violations, including numerous incidents involving both alcohol and controlled substances. [Aaron Shandor, Chief Ranger]
