Further details have been submitted on these NPS fires:

  • Neighbor Mountain Fire, Shenandoah NP –The size of the fire remains an estimated 2,138 acres and containment will remain at 90% until there is significant rainfall. Within the containment lines, the fire continues to creep and smolder in duff and small previously unburned islands of fuels. There are numerous large downed and standing trees that also continue to smolder within the fire's perimeter. There was an infrared overflight yesterday morning. Firefighters patrolled and will continue to patrol containment lines and mop-up hotspots that threaten those lines. As conditions permit, rehabilitation of some fire lines will continue. The Type 3 incident management team managing the fire plans to transition to a Type 4 organization today. For more information on the fire, see the related sites on InciWeb and Facebook.
